Charlene & Willem’s wedding day was one of the highlights of my year! This couple and their guests were some of the nicest people I’ve ever had the opportunity to work with. They made us feel right at home in their beautiful town, Piet Retief (click here to view their engagement photoshoot that was also captured in their hometown). Charlene & Willem said their vows on the 7th of February 2015 at a chapel in town that has special sentimental value to them and their reception took place at Charlene’s old school.

The look and feel of their wedding day was rustic/vintage – they had so many creative & handmade decor ideas, I love the apple and pear shapes made from books! Also, the kneeling pillows used during the ceremony was Charlene’s grandparents wedding kneeling pillows from 59 years ago! The couple’s newlywed photo session was almost cut short after a thunderstorm started, but luckily there was no rain at the reception venue and we were able to take some beautiful shots in the forest plantations.

It was my first wedding for 2014 and I was very excited to start off the year with this beautiful morning ceremony and brunch reception. It was relaxed yet elegant and Minette and Jan Hugo are an amazing couple to work with! I absolutely love a good, school acquintances/online reconnecting, love story and this one is really beautiful.

Chantel & Johny finally tied the knot on the 28th of April 2013 at the luxurious Avianto Estate in Muldersdrift. I just love these two – they look SO great together (it’s like they were made to be in front of the camera) and they are genuinely nice, kind-hearted people. Their The Notebook inspired engagement session in Cullinan, Gauteng last year was probably my favourite engagement session of all time and I knew their wedding day would be special in more ways than I could ever imagine. (Click here to view their Cullinan The Notebook inspired Engagement Session.)

Elegant Avianto Muldersdrift Wedding Johannesburg Izelle Labuschagne Photography These PRIMARY school sweethearts planned an unforgettable wedding day, filled with beautiful creative DIY elements, stunning elegance and the most lovely heartfelt moments – Johny even sang a song he wrote especially for his bride during his speech!
Not to mention their wedding attire – Chantel’s dress & Johny’s suit was a dream to photograph and we were spoiled with the most lovely sunlight during their couple session; of course Avianto‘s gardens and scenery also never fails to impress.

Can you tell me about your inspiration – how did you do things differently?

On the 6th of October 2012, as I arrived at River Place Country Estate in Centurion, I was welcomed by bright colours and wild flowers and I just knew this was going to be a fantastic wedding to be a part of!
Meagan and Brink put so much thought into every detail of their wedding – from the wedding cake decorated by Meagan’s father, hand-weaved flower petal baskets and even homemade beer at the reception! There were bottles filled with orange, purple and yellow flowers on the steps leading toward their chosen reception venue, Al Fiume Restaurant at River Place Country Estate, and the restaurant was decorated with bright coloured prayer flags with beautiful flowers and candles used as centre pieces.

Meagan and Brink looked amazing in their wedding attire and I love the boutonnieres made with colourful ribbons that were handed out to all the guests. I’m not even going to go into detail regarding Meagan’s hair, make-up and dress, but let’s just say the make-up artists, dressmaker and hair stylist did a fantastic job! Hands down, my favourite part of this wedding was the African Marigold flowers in the bride’s hair – it just looks so lovely in all the photographs!

Brink and Meagan met through a mutual friend. In his own words: Read more…
